B.C.’s provincial tree is dying in Parksville; drought from climate change suspected

Municipality looking at ways to save remaining trees

British Columbia’s provincial tree – the Western red cedar – is dying in Parksville, with more than half of the canopy in decline. Drier conditions, brought on largely by climate change, are largely to blame, and the municipality is now looking at ways to save what remains of the species.
